Water and Sanitation

Ensuring Safe Water and Sanitation for a Healthier Tomorrow

Access to clean water and safe sanitation is fundamental to human dignity, health, and well-being. Yet in many rural and underserved areas of Bangladesh, contaminated water sources, lack of sanitation infrastructure, and poor hygiene practices continue to threaten lives β€” especially those of women and children.

At Aloshikha, we are committed to addressing the water and sanitation crisis through sustainable, community-driven solutions. Our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Program not only provides infrastructure but also promotes behavioral change and long-term health awareness.

🚰 Our WASH Interventions

🏞 1. Safe Water Access

We install and maintain deep tube wells, community-based filtration units, and rainwater harvesting systems to ensure clean and arsenic-free drinking water. Priority is given to schools, health centers, and disaster-prone communities.

🚽 2. Sanitation Infrastructure

Aloshikha supports the construction of hygienic, gender-sensitive toilets in schools, households, and public spaces. We promote low-cost, eco-friendly sanitation models that are locally appropriate and easy to maintain.

🧼 3. Hygiene Awareness Campaigns

We conduct regular hygiene promotion sessions, especially among schoolchildren and mothers, focusing on handwashing, menstrual hygiene, water storage, and sanitation maintenance. Awareness is spread through community meetings, posters, school activities, and peer educators.

🩸 4. Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)

We educate adolescent girls and their families about menstrual health, provide access to reusable sanitary kits, and work with schools to ensure safe and private facilities. Breaking the stigma around menstruation is central to our approach.

πŸ›  5. Community Maintenance & Ownership

We train local caretakers and water user groups to manage and repair WASH infrastructure. Ownership ensures sustainability and reduces dependence on external actors.

πŸ“Š Impact Summary

  • 150+ deep tube wells installed in arsenic-affected and saline areas

  • 5,000+ people gained access to safe sanitation

  • 2,000+ girls reached with menstrual hygiene support

  • Handwashing rates improved in 80+ schools

  • Significant decrease in waterborne diseases like diarrhea, dysentery, and cholera in target areas

🀝 Community-Driven Sustainability

Our WASH approach is participatory. From planning to post-installation monitoring, communities are involved at every step. We collaborate with local health departments, school authorities, and WASH committees to ensure services are relevant, inclusive, and effective.

πŸ’‘ Future Vision

Aloshikha aims to expand WASH services in climate-vulnerable zones by introducing solar-powered water systems, eco-san toilets, and digital monitoring of water quality. We are working toward a future where every child can go to school with access to clean toilets, and every family can drink water without fear.

Clean water is not a privilege β€” it’s a right. And we are committed to making that right a reality for all.
